To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the making of the movie JAWS, I thought it might be fun to issue a set of collectible postcards based on my memories and various images taken during the six months of shooting on Martha's Vineyard in 1974. I was one of the first people hired in early spring and one of the last people let go in mid-fall of '74. My position was foreman of the local hire set construction crew, and I personally worked on most of the sets used in the movie. Local hire carpenters and painters are not on the official organization chart of the movie and never get screen credit for their efforts. There are time-honored rules set by film studios, unions, and movie producers that determine who is publicly acknowledged for their efforts. Rules notwithstanding, there are numerous photos of me actually working on the sets, ORCAs, and the assorted sharks that have been featured in documentaries, books, and the photographic archive. I offer these collectible postcards as an inexpensive offering to the large group of devoted fans who are avid collectors of memorabilia and merchandise associated with the movie. At different points over the years, I have been offered $20 by serious collectors each time I signed a photograph for their collection. Apparently, that is the going rate for such things. I'm hoping that people will share these postcards with friends and children and mail them from Martha's Vineyard when they attend the official celebration in 2025.

The Postcard Collection

I'm not really in the postcard, watercolor, or memorabilia business, so this is probably going to remain a very small collection. Each postcard is a high-end, laminated standard postcard (4”x6”) with a reproduction of a watercolor that I painted on the front. Each one is titled and autographed by me on the front. There may be small errors in the set, or “fidos” as coin collectors call them. I'm neither a professionally trained watercolorist nor a postcard manufacturer, so please be patient. These are genuine, collectible items that have been received with high regard from several rather large and highly regarded JAWS collectors.
